Please see below the latest AAMA updates for the past 2 weeks:
- Our Music and Medicine event that was live-streamed earlier this month continues to be a very big success. To date, we have had 314 registrants. The event will remain on the AAMA website: www.aamaboston.org for viewing until the 3rd of July. It will then be taken down. - Our two HBO machines are in Armenia and they have been cleared through customs. The MOH will next deliver the machines to Mikaelyan Institute (Yerevan) and the Republican Hospital (Artsakh). More details to come.
- Our Partners for World Health project is moving forward slowly but surely. The AAMA will be paying a little over $21,000 to get a 40Ft container full of medical supplies that will be shipped to Armenia and delivered to two different hospitals in need. We have identified a local Armenian NGO to accept our shipment, clear it through customs and then deliver to Sourp Asdvadzamayr Hospital and Traumatology and Orthopedics Center (more on this later).

For new or current members, we ask that you pay your dues through the website electronically. Remember that the AAMA is a non-profit organization. All your donations, including payment of your dues, are tax-deductible. We are also on FB, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Also, note that we are registered in the Amazon Smile program. Every time you purchase an item from Amazon, provided you choose our AAMA organization as your non-profit from the Amazon Smile website, a certain percentage of your purchase gets donated to AAMA. Even though one may think that is little dollars, we have close to 215 of you on this mailing list. The dollars add up. Please consider making use of this program while shopping on Amazon.
- The medical student consortium team continues its monthly meetings as we develop strategies to collaborate with medical student and postgraduate training and education both in Armenia and New England as well as developing a journal club and case presentation zoom webinars for medical students and residents from Armenia to benefit from. We are also teaming up med students / residents / fellows in NE with same-specialty AAMA faculty. If you have any questions or comments on this, please reach out to me or Alexa.
- We also recently were introduced to a group, primarily based in California but with members all over the US by the name of Rise and Raise. Their goal is to work with Armenian pre-medical students and to support them in their medical school applications, and offer advice and mentorship.
- Our treasurer, and board member, Shant Parseghian, has initiated a zoom collaboration with Nancy Barsamian (head of AWWA) to improve the care of diabetes in Artsakh. This will include many aspects of care, including nursing, blood sugar control, supplies, education, and other.
- An AAMA friend from New York, Samuel Badalian, has successfully obtained a Fulbright scholarship from the US state department with the goal of establishing a fellowship training program in the field of Urogynecology in Armenia. I have formed a group of 7 international Urogynecologists and we are in the process of developing the curriculum, lectures, training program, etc.
- To date, the AAMA has invested $185,000 into the oxygen generation program of the Alikhanyan Physics institute in Armenia. We have been informed that due to Covid, the manufacturing of the oxygen generator in Russia has been delayed. The new anticipated delivery date to Armenia is mid-July.
- The monthly report we received from Dynamed shows that more and more Armenian physicians are using the medical reference system that we have funded in Armenia.
- We continue to explore ideas of supporting a Tufenkian led project in 5 villages in Artsakh to establish a mobile clinic including staff and medical equipment.
